This series was made in Cairo, Egypt, in November and December 2011 amid the Arab Spring movement, which was taking place in the Middle East and North Africa at the time. Egypt was rising to secure fair elections to transition to a civilian government, and thousands of people occupied Tahrir Square to protest the governing military regime. These images depict the escalating violence used to penetrate the square, and the reticent tension building through the surrounding city.
